The second meeting of our Broken News team took place in Trieste on Saturday, 15th of February. After a short organizational briefing on the daily activity, the group went to the city centre to carry out some interviews focused on the perception of fake news and hate speech in the local population. After a brief introduction, interviewees were asked if and how much they were informed about the topics proposed and to suggest some examples related to them. Afterwards they were involved in small games of interpretation and understanding of the discussed matters.

The first "game" consisted in providing two online news to the interviewees, one true and one false, and their job was to guess which one was the fake news.
In the second game, instead, we showed them a map of Friuli Venezia Giulia and Istrian region and asked them to write on some post-it the first words evoked by the image.
A total of seven respondents were interviewed, all young people between the ages of 20 and 30, except for one middle-aged couple. The interviews lasted on average 10 minutes and in all of them the participation and interaction between interviewer and interviewee was very active.
A young couple, although they preferred to answer questions with the camera off, was very involved, especially at the end of the interview, in both games played.

The people interviewed were participative and expressed their ideas and considerations in a clear and direct way. At the same time, however, we have received some rejections, around 20, from people who have avoided the interview. In most cases, this refusal was due to a lack of time available to answer questions. The people who did not want to participate were mostly elders.
